UPDATE: MFL Mar Mac music teacher arrested

MONONA (KWWL) -- The Monona Police Department says they have arrested a music teacher in the MFL Mar Mac district for giving alcohol to a minor.

According to Chief Jane Scott-Quandahl, Richard Nance, 58, was arrested on Monday.  He is charged with Open Container, Supplying Alcohol to a Minor, and Violation of Gun Conveyance Law.

He was released Wednesday on an appearance bond.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Clayton County, Nance allegedly agreed to meet an underage girl at the Davis Street Car Wash in Monona.

The complaint goes on to accuse Nance of meeting the girl at the car wash at around 5:35 p.m. on Monday and giving her a mixed drink.

Dr. Dale Crozier, MFL Mar Mac Superintendent, released the following statement:

"We had some non-verified information that Mr. Nance was involved in some inappropriate activities with students-so we involved the police at all levels. The various levels of the police all worked together in this investigation. At this point, the legal end is out of my hands. The school district will deal with this issue professionally, and appropriately and in our time-frame. There are no further comments to be made on this issue."

Here is a copy of the e-mail Dr. Crozier sent to staff:

As I write this I am sitting here with the Monona Police Chief

This is to advise you that Richard Nance, MFL MarMac's high school vocal music instructor, was arrested yesterday evening at the Monona Car Wash by the Monona Police. Mr. Nance was charged with offenses, of which include supplying alcoholic beverages to a person under legal age.

Charges stem from alleged actions with a minor under eighteen-years of age. Please trust that the school district will handle this situation appropriately. This is also true of any other situations that may or may not be part of this investigation. Please act professionally by not contributing to the rumor mill. If you do not know that something is true, then don't say it.

I want all media attention from this incident to be directed to me.

Thanks you,
