Older Iowans walk a mile for healthier life

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- Walking a mile for a healthier lifestyle. That's the goal for the Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on aging today.

Thursday the agency hosted a one mile walk for older Iowans. Walks all started Thursday in all these different communities

135 people in Waterloo got moving with this walk at Young Arena.  The oldest one walking at this location is 91 years old.

The age strong, life long, walk on walk is free because after all it doesn't have to cost anything to stay in shape.

"I could take the bus but I feel this way I'm killing two birds with one stone. I'm saving the bus fare and also getting exercise." Leslie Streittmatter said.

The oldest person walking in any of today's walks in Eastern Iowa is 105 years old.

He walked in the Parkersburg event this morning.

Honorary walkers for today's event was KWWL's Ron Steele and Mayor Buck Clark.
