Two summer events added to Iowa Free Fishing Weekend


WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The first weekend of June 2010 will be Iowa's Free Fishing Weekend.

The North Liberty Parks and Recreation Department, Scheels and the Iowa DNR have teamed up to host a family fishing event. 

The event will take place on June 5 at Liberty Centre pond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be prizes and giveaways as well as learning stations throughout the day.  Some of these stations include casting, fishing techniques, live fish ID and safety.  There were also be food and many other activities.

Waterloo is also holding an event in honor of the Free Fishing Weekend.  A day of family fishing, food and fishing tips will be held at George Wyth Lake from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 5.

Like the North Liberty event, the Waterloo fishing day will have various learning stations and activities.  The Waterloo event will include goodie bags with bait samples as well as door prizes.

Admission to both events is free.  All that is suggested is basic fishing gear, a rod and reel and bait.
