Car chase leads to two arrests

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Two men were arrested Monday afternoon after they led authorities on a car chase through Central City.

Deputies noticed a maroon-colored Jeep Cherokee with expired registration plates around 1 p.m. Monday.  When they tried pulling the car over, it sped away.

32-year-old Brian Padgett and 42-year-old Jack Bruce, both of Central City, led authorities into a residential area, between buildings and into an open field.  Both vehicles got stuck in the muddy field where Padgett and Bruce continued the chase on foot.  Padgett was caught shortly into the running chase.  K-9 Gompie and his handler later found Bruce hiding in some bushes.

Both men face charges of Interference with Official Acts and Possession of Stolen Property.  Padgett also faces charges of Driving While Barred, No Insurance, Fail to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident.
