Boone sued in unequal employment claim

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing the city of Boone, claiming it hired a younger employee over an older and more experienced candidate.

The EEOC says that the city hired a 25-year-old with little experience as a municipal infractions officer instead of 65-year-old Larry Cook.  Cook is a Navy veteran with experience in management, construction, electronics and communications.

The suit claims the city violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act when they hired the what the EEOC says is a younger, less experienced applicant.  The agency is seeking back pay and damages for Cook as well as putting a ban on future employment discrimination in Boone.
