Hansard set to plead guilty

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- An Ankeny woman accused of defrauding four Cedar Rapids Area businesses is set to plead guilty next month.

Suzanne Kay Hansard, 42, of Ankeny, turned herself in on November 23rd and was charged with 2nd Degree Theft.

Police say Hansard told the businesses that she was an agent for Great Values Graphics and talked the businesses into buying advertising in fliers or pamphlets that she said would be passed out to employees at St. Luke's Hospital and Mercy Medical Center.

Police say Hansard never followed through on her promise.

The Cottage Grove, Minnesota police helped in locating Hansard because they had similar instances in their city.

According to online court records, Hansard's trial was scheduled to begin on June 1st, instead, she will plead guilty on June 2nd.

Hansard's attorney, Richard Zimmerman, says Hansard will plead guilty to 2nd Degree Theft.

She was originally charged with Ongoing Criminal Conduct and 2nd Degree Theft.

Zimmerman says that Hansard will also ask for a deferred judgement and will make restitution.

He says his client is ready to put this all behind her.

The businesses Hansard is accused of defrauding are Chirocare East, Greg's Lawn and Fertilizer and Mystic Massage all of Cedar Rapids and Back in Line Chiro in Hiawatha.
