Sumner man tries to sell stolen items on Craigslist

WAVERLY (KWWL) -- A Sumner man has been charged for attempting to sell stolen property to an undercover Iowa State Patrol officer on the website Craigslist.

Late last week, officers from several different agencies including Waverly and Sumner police departments, the Bremer County Sheriff and Iowa State Patrol, served search warrants on Fridley Drive in Sumner to recover some of the stolen items.

According to police, stolen items from multiple thefts and burglaries dating back to September 2009 were recovered in the search.

Terris Arthur Schmitz, 29, was arrested  and charged with theft in the 1st degree, two counts of burglary in the 3rd degree and three counts of theft in the 3rd degree. Schmitz is being held on $52,500 bond in the Bremer County Jail.

Arrest warrants for theft have also been issued by Black Hawk County. And the police say additional charges are still pending in Bremer County following further investigation.
