Cedar Rapids looks to hire interim city manager

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The city of Cedar Rapids is planning to hire Allan Thoms as an interim city manager.

The City Council is considering a three month contract with options for renewal. The city says Thoms would help them transition to a long-term city manager.

The City Council will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. on Monday to provide more details. They also plan to discuss the decision at their Tuesday evening meeting.

Mayor Ron Corbett expressed his support for hiring Thoms.

Thoms is a former chairman of the state utilities board, former director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Thomas also served as the mayor of Dubuque and the Chief of Staff to Gov. Terry Branstad.

Corbett appointed four members of the city council to a personnel committee to find a new city manager when former city manager Jim Prosser resigned in early April.
