Rubashkin trial resumes

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The trial of a former manager of an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse is to resume after delays because of health reasons and a Jewish holiday.

Sholom Rubashkin faces 83 counts of child labor violations stemming from a May 2008 raid at the former Agriprocessors plant in Postville where 389 illegal immigrants, including children, were detained.

The trial, in its second week, is to resume Friday in Black Hawk County District Court in Waterloo.

Rubashkin's trial was to resume last Monday, but he was hospitalized with a skin infection. The court had earlier granted Rubashkin's request to take Wednesday and Thursday off because of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.

Rubashkin also is awaiting sentencing on federal financial charges.
