WEBSTER CITY (AP) -- Jurors have been shown autopsy photos of the bruised body of a Charles City toddler who died while in her 15-year-old cousin's care last summer.

Edgar Concepcion Jr. is charged with first-degree murder, sexual abuse and child endangerment in the July, 10, 2009 death of 3-year-old Krystel Banes.

A Hamilton County jury saw the photos Thursday during Concepcion's trial. The photos show bruises on the girl's face, neck, chest, abdomen and genital area.

Dr. Jonathan Thompson, an associate state medical examiner, testified that he counted 18 bruises on the child's body.

Thompson told jurors the bruises resembled pinch marks and a larger bruise on her chest resembled a bite mark.

Thompson testified that Krystel died of asphyxia.
