Waterloo Police looking for missing convict

WATERLOO (AP) -- Waterloo Police are searching for a man who faces 10 years in prison as a result of his conviction on an attempted burglary charges.

Eric Terrell Burkett was convicted Friday by a Black Hawk County jury in connection with the December 19, 2005 burglary of a Waterloo home. He had been charged with first-degree burglary for the crime, during which an accomplice fired a handgun to threaten a resident. No one was injured.

Prosecutors said Burkett's DNA was found on a ski mask discovered in the area. He was arrested in July 2008 and was later released on bond.

The 37-year-old Burkett didn't hear the verdict because he quit showing up partway through the trial.

Assistant County Attorney Joel Dalrymple says Burkett whereabouts are unknown and the court has issued a warrant for his arrest.
