Parkersburg Veterans Memorial nears completion

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) --A tribute to Iowa's bravest is almost complete. Monday some of the large stones were put into place for Parkersburg's new Veterans Memorial. The American Legion has been planning the project for the past two years, and began raising money last Memorial Day.

So far they've raised $180,000 -- but it's a $200,000 project.

"A lot of work went into the design of it to make sure we are recognizing all branches of the service, making sure we are covering all the conflicts and that there is no designation between male and female," added Neal Schrage, Post 285 Commander.

Dedication for the project is scheduled for Memorial Day 2010. Along with the ceremony, they're planning a parade on Saturday, May 29th. It starts in the high school parking lot at 11:00 a.m.
