Chilly weather means some students need extra layers

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Some eastern Iowa kids are a little chilly in class this week.

It's not supposed to be this cold in May, right?

"All the boilers at all the schools are turned off. We usually do that by mid-April," Waterloo Community Schools spokesperson Sharon Miller said.

Parents received a phone message Wednesday morning advising to dress their children in layers.

The boiler at Black Hawk Elementary School is being permanently dismantled.  Workers are moving the boiler to another building before the school is demolished this spring.

Temperatures will struggle to get into the 50's Wednesday with lots of rain.
