CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The University of Northern Iowa has unveiled plans to build an apartment-style residence hall officials say will blend in with the campus.
The project, which would be completed in three phases, will result in 788 apartment-style housing opportunities for junior and senior students looking to live on campus.
The first phase of the $64 million project will get under way this fall with the building of 60 apartments that will include 204 bedrooms.
University Officials say each unit will have a common living and kitchen space. The rooms will replace the approximately 210 beds lost when Shull Hall was renovated in 2004.
Northern Iowa residence system director Michael Hager says while juniors and seniors enjoy their experiences on campus, they also want more independence.
