Janesville Fire Fighter Charged with OWI

JANESVILLE (KWWL)-- According to Janesville Fire Chief Bryan Destival, volunteer fire fighter David Flood was driving the truck on March 27th.

While on the way to a garage fire, he crashed.

"My first thought was anybody hurt. That was my first concern. I was wishing I was here to help out being I was out of town." Said Destival.

Flood was the second truck to go out to the fire. He says he swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the truck, rolling it.

Flood was found on Hawthorn and 260th St. with the vehicle on its top. He was then brought to the Waverly hospital.

According to court documents investigators smelled "an odor similar to an alcoholic beverage" while questioning Flood in the hospital.

Due to his injuries police were not able to perform a field sobriety test but later,a blood test found his blood alcohol level was more than .131%.

Flood has been on the Janesville Fire Department for about 14 years and Destival says he was a good volunteer.

"It's a bad deal. Its an eye opener. He has done a lot for the fire department, a lot of volunteerism."

The Bremer County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation. Flood is charged with first offense OWI.
