Congressional committee to look into kids' medicine recall

A congressional oversight committee is launching an investigation into the recent recall of children's medicines made by McNeil, a division of Johnson & Johnson.

McNeil Healthcare issued a recall of infant's and children's liquid Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl products.

An FDA investigation found they were manufactured in a plant with several serious health violations -- including using bacteria-contaminated ingredients, and thick grime covering pipes.

The manufacturing plant has been on a stepped-up inspection schedule for over a year, now members of the house committee on oversight and government reform want those records released by May 17th.

Committee members say the problems at the plant are alarming, and may raise questions about the FDA's response to repeated problems.

This is the third recall in recent months involving McNeil products.
Experts say the chance of children experiencing any side effects from tainted products is remote.
