Cyclone Basketball Sign Minnesota Recruit


The Iowa State men's basketball team added bulk in the middle of its lineup by signing Robbinsdale, Minn., power forward Calvin Godfrey to a national letter of intent this afternoon. Godfrey made it official when he inked with the Cyclones at a ceremony at Cooper High School.

Godfrey, who is listed at 6-8, 240 pounds, is the fifth Cyclone in the 2010-11 recruiting class. ISU head coach Fred Hoiberg is pleased to be bringing in more size to the squad.
"We are very excited to have Calvin join our program," Hoiberg said. "We anticipate him earning playing time immediately. He possesses a great motor, along with a high level of strength and athleticism. He will make an impact for us on the boards, blocking shots and finishing at the rim with power."
Godfrey led his team to the sectional final and a conference championship last season with a 25-4 mark. He averaged 18.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 2.7 assists to help him earn all-conference, all-metro and honorable mention all-state honors.
Godfrey is originally from Milwaukee, Wis., where he prepped at Custer High School. He played at Notre Dame Prep (Fitchburg, Mass.) in the 2008-09 season. lists him as the 86th-best power forward in the nation.
Godfrey played in the 2010 Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) All-Star game, scoring 15 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in the contest.
