Cedar Rapids robbery suspect arrested


CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A man Cedar Rapids Police say committed two robberies in the city has been arrested.

Sergeant Christy Hamblin says Bryan Byrne, 19, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the robbery of Tobacco Point at 1545 1st Avenue NE on November 5, 2009.

Police say two people entered the store wearing goodies and masks.  They say one had a handgun and the other had a club.

According to Hamblin, the clerk was hit in the face with a gun and the two robbers got away with liquor.

Byrne was identified as one of the robbers.

Then on Wednesday,  Byrne was charged with two counts of First Degree Robbery for the robbery at U.S. Bank, 3401 MT. Vernon Road SE, on March 15, 2010.

Police say a lone robber entered the bank at about 10:37 a.m. wearing a black Car hart coat, blue jeans with a gray scarf and displayed a handgun.

Byrne was identified as the robber in that case as well.

He is being held in the Linn County Jail.
