Students' lunches taken away at South Tama

TAMA (KWWL) - The enforcement of a school board policy in the South Tama School District has angered many parents.

If a student's school lunch balance is below zero, they don't get lunch.

So far, that policy had not really been enforced until Monday.

We've learned that some school officials actually took some of the lunches away from students and tossed them in the trash.

Superintendent Kerri Nelson told KWWL that she's taking full blame for this.

She said this is the district's fault and that there was a miscommunication.

Nelson said that they have sent letters out and apologized.
