Longtime Dubuque Senior Teacher and Coach Dies


Longtime Dubuque Senior coach and teacher Jim Boughton  Has died after a six-month battle with cancer. Boughton  coached Senior boy's cross country for more than 25 years and was longtime chair of the academic all-state award..

He started teaching at Senior high in 1982, and coached a variety of sports in his tenure.

He passed away Monday..

We started digging in our archives today and found video of jim featured in an athlete of the week from 1994.

Boughton said, "one thing I learned very early about Rob(Brock) is that he has a lot of talent but he also has more determination than, than anyone I've ever coached."




This story was about former student Rob Brock, a sophomore at the time, preparing to qualify for a national cross country meet..

He went on to a stellar career at the University of Northern Iowa.


Just one of the many young lives touched by the educator and coach..

Jim Boughton was 56 years old.
