Correctional facility on lockdown following assaults on officers

FORT DODGE (KWWL) The Fort Dodge Correctional Facility is currently under lockdown status following assaults on three correctional officers by two inmates.

It happened around 9:39 p.m. Friday. While attempting to place Inmate Nicholas James in restraints due to refusing directives, Inmate James struck the Officer in the head with a closed fist. Another Officer on the unit observed the assault and responded. At this time Inmate Dexter No Ear ran to the incident striking, and assaulting both officers. A third Officer observed this incident.

The three officers assaulted received immediate medical attention for cuts and bruises to the facial area. Although the Department considers this incident as a serious assault, the injuries are not life threatening.

The institution remains locked down and visitation for May 1 has been canceled due to the ongoing internal investigation into this incident.

Inmate James, 19 years old, is serving a twenty year sentence from Woodbury County for Robbery Second Degree, Willful Injury and Going Armed with Intent. This sentence began on January 14, 2010.

Inmate No Ear, 20 years old, is serving a ten year sentence from Woodbury County for Theft Second Degree and Prohibited Acts. This sentence began on December 21, 2009.
