Flags to fly at half staff Saturday for fallen Reinbeck soldier

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Flags across the state will be flown at half staff on Saturday in honor of Command Sergeant Major John K. Laborde.

Laborde, 53, died on April 22, 2010 in a non-combat related incident at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.

Funeral services for Command Sgt. Maj. Laborde on Saturday in his hometown of Reinbeck.

He was a U.S. Army Reserve soldier with the 649th Regional Support Group based in Cedar Rapids.

Governor Chet Culver has ordered that all flags in the state be flown at half staff from 8 a.m. until sunset.

The order applies to all U.S. and state flags under the control of the state.

The U.S. flag that will be flown over the State Capitol on Saturday will be given to the family at a later date, along with a proclamation honoring Command Sgt. Maj. Laborde.
