Rubashkin sentencing continues

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Day two of Sholom Rubashkin's federal sentencing is underway in Cedar Rapids.

Rubashkin is facing more than 1,000 years in prison after being convicted on 86 charges of financial fraud in November 2009.

The charges stem from the massive immigration raid on the Agriprocessors kosher slaughterhouse in Postville in May 2008.

A psychiatrist testified Wednesday that Rubashkin told her he knew illegal immigrants worked at the plant.

Originally, 163 immigration and financial fraud counts were leveled against Rubashkin, but the immigration charges were dropped after Rubashkin was convicted on the fraud charges.

Dozens of supporters have come to Cedar Rapids from around the country to back Rubashkin and are watching the proceedings from a satellite courtroom.

Iowa's News Channel 7's Jason Epner is in the courtroom and will have details of what happened throughout the day on KWWL.COM and on the news at Noon, 5 and 6.
