Iowa City reminds people of weeds ordinance

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The spring season is in full bloom and everything is growing including grass and weeds.

The Iowa City weed ordinance requires that all grass and weeds 14 inches in height or taller must be mowed.

If the City receives a complaint about tall grass and weeds, an inspector will visit the property to verify the violation. If the complaint is verified, the property is tagged and a Notice of Violation is mailed to the property owner.

The owner has 10 days to mow the tall grass and weeds. If it is not mowed when the inspector re-inspects, then an independent contractor is hired to mow the property and the property owner is billed for the cost plus a $75.00 administrative fee.
