State leaders consider Everclear warnings

DES MOINES (KWWL) - State liquor-regulators have dropped a proposal to require Everclear to be registered like beer kegs, but will require warnings on the bottles.

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Commission has been looking at Everclear and other products containing a high alcohol content since a Drake University student nearly died from alcohol poisoning in November 2009.

The student had a blood-alcohol-content of more than .5, and blames it on fraternity hazing.

The fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, must remain inactive for the next few years.
