Dubuque group aims to end sexual violence

Posted:

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A new student organization called OVE+R (Overcoming Violence and Empowering Positive Relationships) has been formed at Loras College. The goal of the group is to join with the Dubuque community to work toward ending sexual violence in all its forms. OVE+R is working to heighten awareness campus-wide about the need to create a community that supports healing and education.

On Thursday, OVE+R will host "Take Back the Night." This event will take place from 8 p.m. through 1 a.m. on the lawn of the Academic Resource Center on the Loras campus. The night will begin with a talk by Josh Jasper, CEO of the Riverview Center, and will also feature original poetry, prose and memoires of survivors. The night will conclude with a support walk around the perimeter of campus and a candlelight vigil in remembrance of those who have experienced sexual violence in their lives.

OVE+R welcomes members of the Dubuque community to this event, to become part of the solution, to be part of the end to sexual violence.
