Iowa City picks new superintendent

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The Iowa City school board has decided on a new superintendent.

WAOW in Wausau, Wisconsin reports Iowa City has offered the job to their current superintendent Steve Murley and he has accepted.

Murley was one of three candidates in Iowa City last week to interview.

According to WAOW, Murley faced heavy criticism from the Wausau teachers union over the past year -- they even asked the school board to fire him because of, they said, a lack of leadership.

the board stood by Murley, saying he's done a good job for the district.

Murley replaces Lane Plugge who's been with the Iowa City school district for 11 years.
