ISU's McDermott accepts Creighton job

Posted:

OMAHA (KWWL) -- Greg McDermott will be the new head coach of the Creighton Blue Jays after accepting a 9 year/$10 million offer Monday afternoon.  The move came just a couple weeks after ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard gave McDermott a vote of confidence to return next season.

McDermott informed his Cyclone team of the decision shortly after 3 PM on Monday afternoon.  He leaves the Cyclones after four consecutive losing seasons, compiling a 59-68 overall record as Iowa State's head coach.

The new Creighton head coach has had a lot of success in the Missouri Valley Conference, however.  McDermott led Northern Iowa to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2004 - 2006.

He will replace Dana Altman who left the Blue Jays after 16 seasons to be the new head coach at Oregon.
