Family, friends say help sendoff 300 soldiers

DES MOINES (KWWL)-- As the U.S. moves forward with its plans to pull all troops out of Iraq, there is still an effort to replenish ground forces there.

On Sunday, 300 Iowa soldiers were sent overseas.  The army reserve soldiers are headed to Iraq as part of "Operation Responsible Drawdown."

It's the Pentagon's plan to end the U.S. occupation in Iraq. The soldiers are from the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

On Sunday morning, the group said goodbye to their families at Des Moines Lincoln High School.

Governor Chet Culver was also at Sunday's sendoff ceremony.
