$70 thousand for babies

BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) --An annual fundraiser raised 70 thousand dollars during the March for Babies on Saturday.

Around 400 people walked the two mile walk for the March of Dimes.

Roughly 70 percent of the money raised will go directly toward research to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant deaths.

Mother of triplets Heidi Abben knows the March of Dimes work from experience.

Her daughters were born premature.  The March of Dimes helped their family when the triplets were in the Intensive Care Unit.

" Our girls, I'm not sure that they would be as healthy and as vibrate as they are today without the March of Dimes," Abben said.

The Abben family is now an ambassador family.  They share their story to promote support for the March of Dimes.

"Mothers come up to me not realizing that the march of dimes helps every baby, not just premature babies with birth defects they help every healthy baby from the folic acid that a mother takes when they're pregnant to the heal prick that tests for the 9 different diseases right after they're born."
