Nurse hired at Iowa State, Grayer could be next

AMES (KWWL) -- Greg McDermott hired former UNI great Nick Nurse to take over the position of associate head coach at Iowa State.  Nurse had been coaching the NBDL's Iowa Energy ever since their inception in 2007.

As coach of the Energy, Nurse led Iowa to a pair of division championships and an NBDL single season win record of 37.  As a player, Nurse was a 2 time MVP and 1 time captain for the Panthers.

A former Cyclone great is also a candidate is also a candidate for another open assistant position at ISU.  The school's all-time leading scorer Jeff Grayer has confirmed that he's spoken with McDermott, but did not give additional details.

The 2 positions were open as assistant Daniyal Robinson took a similar position at Houston, while Jeff Rutter was moved to ISU's director of basketball operations.
