Cedar Valley Boxing sends 3 to national tourney

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Cedar Valley Boxing Club will have 3 representatives at the National Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas next month.

Cesar Bravo, Wesley Washington, and Brandon Marks all advanced to the national tournament after winning titles at the Iowa Golden Gloves Tournament earlier this month and like anyone willing to step in the ring this trio is a special breed.

"You've got to have confidence and willpower to be down here, says Washington, the 123 pound Golden Gloves champ, "I've seen people come, they get hit, beat up, and then they don't come back."

"It takes a special type of person to be able to get punched in the face, to actually like getting punched in the face," says heavyweight Marks, "cause over time, boxing long enough, sometimes you just want to come down and get punched a few times to take away a little bit of the stress."

Bravo, the 123 pound champ agrees, "Once those first punches connect you forget about anything.  You forget about the world.  You're in there to fight.  You've got to bring your fight to show everybody else that you're there, and you love the sport."

The National Golden Gloves tournament is slated for May 2-8.
