Man enters plea deal in 2003 shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A Des Moines man has entered into a plea agreement that will result in a 40-year prison sentence for the 2003 death of a man at the home of the gunman's estranged wife.

The Iowa Supreme Court reversed the murder conviction of Jamon Allen in April 2009, ruling in an unrelated case that prosecutors couldn't use a willful-injury charge to enhance murder charges against a defendant.

Polk County authorities say the 37-year-old Allen on Monday entered an Alford plea on manslaughter, burglary and weapons charges. With the Alford plea, Allen does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to win a conviction.

Allen was convicted in 2005 of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He was accused of shooting to death Duncan Walker.
