Police: Student brought gun to school twice

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Iowa City Police say a 15-year old has been arrested for bringing a gun to school on Friday and Monday.

Sergeant Denise Brotherton says the student brought the gun to City High on Friday, but no one reported it until Monday morning.

She says Friday's incident was reported to Assistant Principal Terry Coleman.

When Coleman confronted the student on Monday morning, he ran.

Coleman ran after the student while calling police.

When police arrived, they stopped the student and say he was cooperative with them.

Officers searched the teen and found the revolver, but say he had no bullets and don't believe he had any on Friday.

Police say no one was ever threatened and believe that no students were ever in danger.

No charges have been filed, but he is being interviewed by officers to find out how he got the gun and why he brought it to school.

Brotherton added, that while Tuesday is the 11th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings in Colorado, they don't believe these incidents had anything to do with that.

She said that this is most likely a case of a kid wanting to show off a gun.
