Iowa City Schools name superintendent finalists

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The Iowa City Community School District school board met in closed session Friday morning and came away with three superintendent finalists.

The finalists are:

-- Mark Bezek, currently superintendent of Elk River Area Schools in Elk River, Minn., a district of 13,000 students and 2,000 employees.

-- Brad Meeks, currently superintendent of the Farmington, Minn., school district, which has 6,400 students and 750 employees.

-- Steve Murley, currently superintendent of the Wausau, Wis., school district, which has 8,500 students and 1,200 employees.

Each will spend a day in the district next week — Bezek on Tuesday, Murley on Wednesday and Meeks on Thursday.  There will be a public forum at 6:15 p.m. The board will interview each candidate starting at 7 p.m.

The district is looking to replace Lane Plugge, who will resign on June 30 after 11 years with the district.
