Alliant says customers saw lower winter heating bills

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Alliant Energy says natural gas customers saved money this winter.  In a news release, Alliant says:

"Lower natural gas prices and some warmer weather across Iowa translated into a 16 percent savings for Alliant Energy subsidiary Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL) natural gas customers for the recently completed winter heating season.  IPL considers the winter heating season to run from October 1 – March 31. According to the company's monthly Natural Gas Update, the average IPL residential natural gas customer saw a savings of $120 this winter heating season when compared to the 2008-2009 winter heating season.  After near record prices in 2008, natural gas prices plummeted into 2009, before rebounding slightly. The Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) is currently predicting natural gas prices to remain below their five-year average for the remainder of 2010.
