Cedar Rapids school district budget passed, jobs will be cut

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids school district has approved next year's budget, but it eliminates 49 full time-equivalent teachers and 10 full time equivalent custodians.

According to Superintendent Dave Benson, declining enrollment is to blame.

The board voted Monday night to increase the tax levy by more than a dollar to 15 dollars and 5 cents per $1,000.

The district's director of business says despite the increase, Cedar Rapids has the lowest tax rate of all Linn County school districts.
