Greyhound Kennels optimistic

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Our state's greyhound kennels say they're looking forward to a strong racing season -- even with the attempt to shut down the industry.

Right now there are dog tracks in Dubuque and Council Bluffs.

Recently Harrah's Entertainment Incorporated -- which owns two casinos in Council Bluffs -- encouraged lawmakers to end the racing. They even offered to pay the state 7 million dollars a year to stop subsidizing for the sport.

The idea didn't go anywhere, but Joe Lent of Dubuque's River Bluffs Kennel says he thinks the added publicity will bring people out to see what dog racing is all about.
