Kernels Beat Beoit 5-3 For First Win

The Cedar Rapids Kernels picked up the first win of the 2010 campaign with a 5-3 win over Beloit on Friday night at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids. Carlos Ramirez went 3-4 with two doubles and 2 RBI and Jean Segura went 2-2 with two runs scored as the Kernels pounded out 10 hits in the game.
 
Kernels starter Fabio Martinez (1-0) allowed just two hits and struck out 11 Snappers over five innings for the win. Jeremy Berg threw recorded the final two outs of the game for his first save of the season. The Kernel pitching staff has recorded 31 strikeouts in the first two games this season as they struck out 15 Snappers tonight.
 
Adam Younger continues to swing a hot bat, going 2-3 with an RBI to raise his average to .571 and Randal Grichuk went 1-3 and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
