Murder trial to remain in Iowa Co.

MARENGO (KWWL) - The trial of an eastern Iowa woman accused of killing her boss will stay in Iowa County.

A judge ruled Wednesday that there is no substantial evidence to move the first-degree murder trial of Jessica Dayton, of Belle Plaine. Her trial is set for April 19.

Dayton is accused of killing Curtis Bailey, of Marengo, last July. Bailey owned a Belle Plaine cafe, where Dayton worked.

Dayton's attorney, Doug Eichholz, asked that the trial be moved, citing pretrial publicity.

The judge decided not to move the trial after reviewing juror questionnaires.

Dayton is one of three people charged in the case. Also charged with first-degree murder are Bailey's common-law wife, Denise Frei, of Marengo, and her son, Jacob Hilgendorf, of Belle Plaine. Their trial is set for May 17.
