UNI Dismisses Penrith as Wrestling Coach

Posted:

It appears the ten year run of Brad Penrith as head of the University of Northern Iowa wrestling program is over.

Tonight an emotional Brad Penrith told me that he is being let go as the Panther wrestling coach with two years remaining on a three year contract he signed last spring. .Northern Iowa officials would not confirm this.. But Penrith said he was informed the university wants to move in another direction.

Penrith led UNI to a 90-75 dual meet record during his ten years as the Panther head coach... This spring--penrith was named West Regional coach of the year after the Panthers finished second by just one-half point in the conference tournament....later UNI finished 46th at the NCAA championships with one all-american.

Brad Penrith says with a strong recruiting class coming in-- an upgrade in facilities and stronger support for the program--the future looks very bright for northern iowa wrestling. Brad told me he is very dissapointed he won't be given the chance to see it through.
