Waterloo native Mike Bender to Iowa golf Hall of Fame

URBANDALE (KWWL) -- Renowned PGA tour golf instructor Mike Bender has been selected as one of 6 new members who will be inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame.  Bender, a Waterloo native, recently was also recently named the PGA of America's 2009 National Teacher of the Year.

Bender's worked with many PGA tour professionals over the years, most notably 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson and two-time U.S. Open champ Lee Janzen.  He currently runs the Mike Bender Golf Academy in Lake Mary, Florida.

Joining Bender in the 2010 Iowa Golf Hall of Fame class are PGA Champions Tour star Lonnie Nielsen of Belle Plaine, two-time Iowa PGA Golf Professional of the Year Jim Hasley of Davenport, golf turf industry leader Steve Tyler of Waverly, former Des Moines area club professional Jack Hall, and 1920's era Des Moines amateur Bob McKee.

The induction ceremony will take place June 3rd as part of the Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines.

    The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team gave up a season high 13 runs in a 13-5 loss to Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights took two out of the three games in the series against the Hawks. Rutgers pounded out 16 hits in the games and scored the first 10 runs in just four innings.
