Police and railroad team up for railroad crossing enforcement

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Police Department and CRANDIC Railway teamed up Tuesday morning to crack down on drivers who run through railroad crossings.

Police say the project ran for several hours in the morning and resulted in 12 tickets, two warnings and the arrest of a person that had six warrants out for their arrest.

An officer was stationed on the train to relay descriptions of cars that ran through the crossing arms or lights.

Drivers are reminded that if you come upon a flashing railroad signal or crossing gate, you are required to stop and then proceed when it is safe to do so.

The police department and the railroad call Tuesday's project a success and plan to run the project again.
