Farm machinery back on the roads - use caution

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The coming month marks the first heavy period in the farming season for Spring planting in Iowa, and the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is urging all drivers to use caution when driving on our county's roads.

Farm machinery is slower, bulkier; with the implements towed, and the sheer weight of the machinery, they are much more dangerous. Drivers are urged to slow down when approaching these vehicles, use caution when passing, and pass only where it is lawful.

Also, farmers are encouraged to ensure that their equipment is maintained effectively. Make sure that all lights and reflective devises are operational, and that all towed implements are well marked and recognizable. Finally, farmers should always be aware of their surroundings. Pay particular attention to motorists approaching from behind them.
