Two new specialty Iowa license plates available

DES MOINES (AP) -- State officials say two new Iowa specialty license plates, one featuring a buck deer, and another with a brook trout, are available for purchase April 1 from county treasurers.

That brings to five the number of natural resource license plates that Iowans can choose to generate funding for the Resource Enhancement And Protection program and wildlife diversity.

Cedar Rapids wildlife artist Greg Bordignon created the artwork for the plates, as he did for earlier pheasant and eagle plates.

People who currently have an existing natural resource plate can switch to the new design for a fee of $5 paid at their county treasurer's office. Motorists who want to exchange any other type of plate for a natural resources plate will have to pay $25.
