Trial date set for man accused of killing girlfriend

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A trial date is now set for the man accused of beating and strangling his girlfriend in a Johnson County mobile home.

Eric Osborn, 26, will face the First Degree Murder charge on May 10, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in Johnson County court.

A pretrial hearing is set for April 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m..

Osborn admitted to police that killing his girlfriend, Sarah McKay on March 7, 2010.

According to court documents, Osborn told investigators he hit McKay in the head with a baseball bat and then choked her until she died.

According to the affidavit, Osborn then tried to kill himself, by slitting his wrists, drinking bleach and slitting his throat.

McKay and Osborn lived together at 18 Expo Drive in the Modern Manor mobile home park near Iowa City.

Osborn's attorney filed a written plea of not guilty on his behalf on March 25, 2010.

Osborn has told investigators that he doesn't remember the killing.

He is being held in the Johnson County Jail on $1 million bond.
