Generator stolen, stop light left dark

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Public Works Department says a generator that was used to power a temporary stop light at Cottage Grove Avenue and 34th Street SE was stolen, leaving the stop light dark for Tuesday morning's commute.

They say the generator was stolen sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, just hours after the light was put into place.

The temporary stop light was put in place to handle increased traffic because of the construction of the East Post Road bridge.

That project is expected to last seven to eight months.

The stop light will be removed once the project is complete.

Anyone with information regarding the theft of the generator is asked to call the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
