UPDATE: Car pulled from river registered to missing woman

PALO (KWWL) -- The car pulled from the Cedar River near Palo Thursday morning is registered to a missing Atkins woman.

Crews pulled the black car from the river at around 9:00 a.m..

A passerby reported seeing a car go into the river near Palo back on March 14th, the same day the family of 66-year old Nancy Collins reported her missing.

At around 10:30 a.m., an ambulance backed up to an ATV that was on scene, and a bag containing what appeared to be body was put on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance.

Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner confirms the car was registered to Collins but has to wait for an autopsy to positively identify the body found inside.

Gardner says the person inside was still buckled in.

Investigators attempted to pull the car from the Cedar River near Blairs Ferry Road on March 28th, but a swift current made that difficult.
