Crews search lake for missing ISU student

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Authorities are searching an Iowa State University lake for the third time as they try to find a student who's been missing since January.

Jonathan Lacina was last seen on Jan. 22 leaving a friend's apartment in Ames. The 21-year-old is a graphic design student at Iowa State.

Crews have searched Lake LaVerne twice before but were hampered by ice and cold.

Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald says Saturday's search will help eliminate the lake as a potential location of Lacina's body.

Searchers used sonar equipment to map the floor of the lake, while crews walked along shallow areas.

Lacina's family has offered a reward for information that leads to his location.
