Iowa Senate passes gun measure

DES MOINES (KWWL) --  Iowa lawmakers are struggling to reach an agree on their budget and end the session, the Senate approved the gun measure. In a 44-4 vote the Senate approved a measure to overhaul Iowa's system for issuing permits to carry a weapon. It now goes to the House.

The gun measure would require sheriff officials to issue a reason if they deny a permit. They will also make decisions based on consistent state guidelines. That's not the only issue up for debate, they're negotiating with the governor over the last details of a $5.3 billion budget. Lawmakers say they expect to finish their debate Monday.
